Cause and Effect
There’s a bunch of stuff that I have to think about that I didn’t have to consider before I was disabled. I bet you see a bunch of stuff on the floor as just that. I see a minefield of stuff on the floor. Shoes and chords on the floor are the worst. I’m in a wheelchair so I can’t run over shoes and I risk destroying chords if I happen to roll over them exactly wrong or right. I have to think about the angles of my feet when I’m transferring to any and everything. I have to think about navigating around food for the dog which I have tracked all through the kitchen (which I have done before.) I have to think about the handles of my chair getting stuck on things when I back up. I have to think about the amount of germs that are transferred between shoes and my brakes which I then have to touch. I’ve encountered all of this on top of ableism. I think being disabled might be as hard or harder than being black. Yea, I said it. I’m both.
