I propel myself in my wheelchair by using my feet. Right after my surgery my arms were weak and I didn’t have enough strength to move myself in a wheelchair via my arms/hands. Eventually the wheelchair that I was using was too big for my apartment, so I used a transport chair instead. A transport chair is smaller than a regular wheelchair and it doesn’t have big wheels that you propel forward. Instead it just has handles that another person can push. I’m grateful that I can use a transport chair. I could get up “hills” by turning around and using my legs to push myself backwards. It’s a lot easier to stop yourself when you’re facing backwards and not forwards because you have your toes and that’s it. I was shocked that there were transport chairs. There are so many devices for disabled people.
