Blending in with the crowd…
One of the messages that able bodied people receive is that it’s advantageous to blend in with the pack. It’s like group think. Group think is when individuals opinions don’t matter, only the opinions of the group matter. That’s why and how a “mob mentality” is possible. Being a disabled person in society is like when Kitty Genovese was murdered while an entire apartment building watched. That’s why first responders point at specific people and give them specific tasks. When you’re not specific, people just assume others are doing it. That’s unfortunately what happened to Kitty Genovese. Nobody called the police because it was just assumed that it was done. When you’re disabled, you really can’t blend in. I really don’t understand why disabled people are ignored. They’re just unique and different people that exist in the same world. It’s just so weird and it doesn’t make sense at all.
