You gotta take the bad with the good
Why is it a common storyline where someone in a wheelchair or who is disabled walks again? It’s weird. Sometimes you’re just in a wheelchair and that’s fine. I’ve also noticed that only one type of disabled is really focused on…temporary disability and that’s just not realistic. There are all kinds and pigeonholing disability is short sighted. Don’t do that.
I was completely cut off from any real self-reflection but I would be sorely remissed if I thought that was everybody’s experience with a brain tumor. I went through life like a really cutthroat competitive contestant on a reality show but I didn’t know it. That must’ve been hard for those around me but not hard enough to actually talk to me about it. It was impossible to “put me in my place” because I was completely disconnected from myself.
It was a situation for sure. Only the rude would interact with me and let me tell you that the message was lost because the delivery was so unpleasant. The worse was when I was physically attacked. I was supposed to feel bad for responding in kind but I didn’t and don’t because I didn’t start it. I would never use physical violence to prove or make a point. Ever. But don’t get it twisted, I will defend myself.
Disability is really serious and it deserves a deep dive. It’s not a trivial topic and it’s not a storyline with a short arc. My experience is that it’s really deep and it really bothers me when it’s used as a crappy plot.
