Accessibility

I drove all the way to a town that I always wanted to go to. I paid for parking and I couldn’t do anything because everywhere had a step. The only places that had ramps were a closed restaurant and a Dunkin.’ I potentially financially contributed to a town that doesn’t care about my experience. I’m extremely upset by my time there. It’s like they said “I don’t care about disabled people” without saying “I don’t care about disabled people.” I was so upset that I wrote an email to them and it’s apparently not important enough to respond to.

The sidewalks were harrowing. I think I almost spilled out of my wheelchair. Bad sidewalks are super dangerous. Now I look if I can move around where as I used to never pay attention. Parents have to deal with kids in strollers on sidewalks. The only difference is that kids grow out of strollers.

What is the deal with people parking in handicap spots? I get that it’s more convenient but people actually need those spots. I see non disabled people using them or blocking a handicap ramp with a car. Talk about self-centered. My new normal is challenging and I don’t need to be reminded that everything is different.

*They still haven’t emailed me. I emailed them in June 2022. I bet that if I was able bodied and I reached out they would have gotten back to me but because I was complaining about the lack of accessibility, they wrote me off.
