Great Escape
I was so tired of being in the hospital. I was completely blindsided by my diagnosis. I didn’t even shower before I left my apartment to go to the doctor. It turned out to be a seven month ordeal with never knowing what would happen next. My hospital room was across the street from a restaurant kitchen, so I could smell it but I couldn’t eat it. My room was right across from the nurse’s station. So I had to deal with constant talking and someone would constantly put the trash can outside my room and I have a strong sense of smell. I just wanted to leave. I was really weak and I managed to unlock the brakes on my wheelchair. I left my room and somehow pressed buttons to open the wing door. The woman who cleans saw me. There was an indoor bridge with an incline/decline. Once I made it to the hill I went for it. I rolled down the hill in my wheelchair all alone. By the time I rolled down the hill the nurses arrived, collected me and took me to my room. I had no plan. I’m surprised I made it that far.
