Nursing Home
Much to my dismay, I was put into a nursing home. After my surgery I wasn’t allowed to go home. Three months in the hospital and I was transferred to a nursing home. It was horrible. All the aides constantly complained. Oh boo hoo you hate your job. Here I am with something real to complain about and I have to listen to other people complain about a job that they chose to do!
There were people with Alzheimer’s there and that’s a hell of a disease. There was a guy with Alzheimer’s and in a wheelchair who constantly went into rooms. What could the staff do? I was the youngest person there. It was traumatic.
They would put this awful lemon flavored thickener in all my liquids. It was so bad. I don’t think I drank a single thing. They’d put (ruin) it in my tea, coffee and water. Awful. The food was atrocious. One time they gave me two mounds of mashed potatoes and a piece of white bread. Not only was it gross, I used to be a restaurant manager. Food is important to me.
There was a lift to rotate patients. One time I fell and instead of just picking me up they all just stared at me while waiting for the lift. That was too much so I started the process of getting up. I wasn’t going to wait for a machine. People were incontinent. I remember the smells of pee and poop. It was awful.
