Slippery

I notoriously (in my opinion) over-grip things. Especially slippery sandwiches. I really don’t like getting my fingers dirty. I’m less likely to eat something that gets my hands/fingers dirty. When sandwiches fall apart, mostly due to (delicious) condiments I grip even harder and the sandwich falls apart anyway. I’ve stopped eating wraps and brioche bread. I would love to but I just can’t manage them anymore.

I was working on grip strength in occupational therapy. My therapist and I made a gross sandwich together. It had orange slices, chicken fingers and mayonnaise on white bread. It was too gross for me and my therapist so she (thankfully) got rid of it. We never used food again. It was disgusting and totally not worth it. She found other ways for me to practice grip strength.

It sucks to avoid food but it’s necessary to know what trips me up. I don’t want to end up with a mess and I don’t really get to enjoy my food. And enjoyment is one of the reasons why we, as humans, eat. I’m fully aware when gripping things too the tightly but I can’t stop. I want to stop but it’s just a reflexive action. I’ve gotten a lot better at it but it falls into the category of things I’ve gotten used to.
