Fashion Sense
One time I was scheduled for a MRI and I was in the nursing home. An aide decided to dress me in matching red pj pants and top. It was so ugly and at the time I didn’t really care what I was wearing. When the occupational therapist saw me she just said “why’d they dress you like that?” She had me pick out different clothes that I liked. Thank goodness for her intervention. Just because you’re disabled your fashion sense doesn’t fly out the window. The “outfit” that the aide picked out was monumentally bad.
I pick out my clothes every day and I dress myself. I get dressed while I’m lying in bed. It’s easier than balancing myself to stand. You have to do so much when you get dressed. You bend over a lot. I’m not down for falling when I’m getting ready.
As I’ve said before, I can’t tie shoelaces tightly. The slip on sneaker has really evolved. I have two pairs and I love them. I found them on the DSW website. One is a slip on high top by Kelly&Katie and the other is a yellow checkered slip on sneaker by Vans. I can wear the things I want and be practical at the same time. I’m a 37 year old woman after all.
