Shower Chair
I am fit enough to handle using the toilet, washing my hands and brushing my teeth with an electric toothbrush. The electric toothbrush is great because you don’t really need to maneuver your hand to really clean your teeth. I’m incredibly thankful for my electric toothbrush.
I use a shower chair. It’s just easier to sit than attempt to stand. I have a detachable shower head so the water goes straight to me. It’s been over five years and I’m still working my way up to washing myself. I’m not trying to get the floor wet. In the scheme of things a wet floor isn’t the end of the world but, I just don’t want to get the floor wet.
I lock my wheelchair brakes and then I have one hand gripping the sink and one hand on the almost closed door then I stand. I use both hands going around the ledge of the bathroom sink. I then have to hold onto my mother’s hand and then I sit on my shower chair. I hold onto the chair (via slots that are conveniently and appropriately placed) and move my feet into the tub. It’s a lot of work but totally necessary to feel clean. It’s a big adjustment that I’ve had to normalize.
