Coffee
The other day I got to see my girlfriend of over 20 years. It was the first time I got to go out without my mother since 2017. We drove with her kids and husband to go to one of my favorite restaurants for brunch. I don’t get to see her often so when I get to see her I get really excited.
I felt so bad for her and her husband. They have twin boys and they’re toddlers. It’s clearly not easy. One boy was sitting down licking the table while the other boy was up and licking the glass of the display case that held the desserts far away from the table.
The boys are potty training so my friend’s husband took them out of the restaurant and to the car. One of the boys had to go so he was sitting on the potty in the trunk. They were brave enough to take the kids on a road trip and they brought a travel training potty with them. Her husband drove the car with a kid on a potty in the trunk. It was raining and because I am in a wheelchair, I had to attempt to not get wet and navigate this one area where the rain heavily falls in one spot. I failed and I got really wet.
I was relieved to be out of the rain and in the car. My friend picked up, with a carrier, her kids drinks and her husband’s coffee. My friend placed his coffee on the divider and then the incident happened. My friend’s husband goes to get his well deserved coffee (that he didn’t have time to drink) and totally fumbles it. Probably 22 of his 24 ounce coffee is spilled all over me. Thankfully the coffee was warm and not hot. As soon as I felt warm liquid under my butt I lost it. It was so ridiculous. It was hysterical. I was all buckled in too.
Because their kids are potty training, they travel with towels. I sat on one to absorb some of the coffee. After all that I was drenched in coffee. Even my foot and entire sandal was soaking wet. We all smelled coffee (that nobody got to drink) all the way to my home.
I could not help but laugh at this story. You are a wonderful storyteller. I have drop foot and can get around, but couldn't outrun zombies. I don't think. We are in this together. I would love to get to know you!!
