Closed Captioning
I’m sensitive to societal ignorance to differences. Maybe because I’m black? Maybe because I’m a woman? Maybe because I’m disabled? Have you checked out the closed captioning on CNN? Sometimes they’re good and sometimes the captions are just unrelated letters. They’ve blocked an entire community from getting news. Come on! You can’t seriously think that regular people are the only ones who like to have news? CNN, a national source for news, doesn’t put effort into closed captioning. I’m in a wheelchair but thank goodness I can still hear.
Why are these issues? It’s like the time that there was a person at Nelson Mandela’s funeral interpreting the eulogies into sign language. The person doing the sign language completely made it up! It’s just as disturbing as the SNL skit of funeral DJ’s. This was a huge deal! An entire group of people couldn’t mourn the loss of Mandela because some guy pretended to sign.
People with disabilities are people too. My goodness. I’m finding that a lot of things just don’t make sense. I will stop watching something with jenky subtitles. If you don’t care to have accurate subtitles then I choose not to watch. The audacity that is required to do some of these things is mind blowing. I can no longer watch CNN.
